Alamogordo Imaging Center’s Radiologists are now offering Radioembolization Y-91 as an option in patients diagnosed with malignant and benign tumors of the liver and other abdominal organs. Radioembolization has been shown to be effective in treating liver metastasis, particularly small tumors, with a low risk of recurrence. This unique form of embolization uses yttrium-90 microspheres that are injected into the hepatic artery through an ultrasound-guided catheter, thus eliminating cancerous tissues without damaging surrounding healthy tissues or vital organs like the heart and bile ducts.
What is Radioembolization?
Radioembolization is a therapeutic procedure for the treatment of inoperable, symptomatic peripheral artery disease. Radioembolization is a minimally invasive treatment that typically requires only one outpatient visit and can be performed in conjunction with other procedures such as surgery or angioplasty to minimize risks and side effects.

Radioembolization is a minimally invasive treatment for unresectable, locally advanced, and metastatic tumors. Radioembolization is performed by injecting a small amount of radioactive material called yttrium-90 into the bloodstream. This material accumulates in the tumor, emitting radiation that destroys the cancer cells with little damage to normal tissue. Radioactive particles are given through an IV to allow them to travel throughout your body and destroy the cancer cells while they are still in circulation.
When Should I Choose Radioembolization?
Radioembolization Y-91 Alamogordo Imaging Center offers the state-of-the-art Radioembolization Y-91 procedure. When your doctor recommends this therapy, it is typically because they have found a tumor or other type of disease in your liver. The goal of Radioembolization is to shrink or destroy tumors by embolizing them with microspheres that are designed to be absorbed by the tumor tissue.
